There’s a new bakery in town, Bloom Cakes & Bakery, and it’s already getting a lot of attention. The cream puffs are what customers have been craving and asking for. And, other specialty items are selling out quickly. Located at 79 Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell, Bloom Cakes recently opened and is owned by a husband and wife from Turkey. Timeline of Opening
Kubra Kasimoglu and her husband, Ahmet Kasimoglu, opened Bloom Cakes a year after moving to the United States from Turkey. After having visited family members who live in Cedar Grove several times, the parents of two decided to make the big move to Montclair. Ahmet, who has a background as an engineer, tells Montclair Girl it was his wife’s dream to open a bakery.

“I always liked Caldwell, Verona, Montclair,” Ahmet tells MG. “We were thinking of opening a bakery and we were thinking Bloomfield Avenue is the best location.”
Prior to Bloom Cakes, 79 Bloomfield Ave was home to the comic book store Gotham Comics. When the Kasimoglus took over, the space was completely empty. Renovation began in November 2021.
“We changed all of the things, including the floor, paint, and plumbing. We added all the decorations. It was not easy,” Ahmet says.
Over four months later, the bakery, which has tables inside for enjoying delicious desserts, was ready to open its doors. The official opening date was Saturday, February 12, 2022.
About the Bakery
Coming from Turkey, the owners brought their European flair to the bakery, along with a warm welcome to all customers who step inside. Along with coffee and tea, the couple takes pride in offering Turkish coffee, which is served in a tiny porcelain cup.

The sweet treats are a reflection of Mr. and Mrs. Kasimoglu’s European background and, for the most part, are made fresh daily. The products served regularly include cannoli with meringue cream, French macarons (in eight different flavors), mousse squares, truffles (in six different flavors), éclairs, cake pops, cream puffs (the bakery’s “bestseller”), baklava, and traditional Turkish apple pie. There are even boxed Turkish delights available for purchase.
“We always care about quality. That’s the best thing — we care about quality and being fresh,” Kubra shares. “If we don’t like it, we aren’t going to sell it.”
Customers can select from the cakes available to purchase on the spot, such as the Napoleon, strawberry shortcake, Snickers, chocolate Ferrero, or can place an order for a custom cake for a special occasion. The bakery has candles and cake toppers as add-ons for cakes.

Over a month after opening, the owners have already gotten “very good feedback from the town.” Although it’s just the husband and wife operating the business, they both agree that they want to keep it more boutique style to ensure the quality of the products. There’s also the prospect of adding new menu items down the road such as different flavored croissants.
“It’s the best for this kind of operation, but of course, we want to grow a little bit and maybe we will get some staff,” Ahmet, who’s been working more than 70 hours a week, shares.
Bloom Cake & Bakery’s hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 9AM to 7PM and on Sunday from 10AM to 5PM. Delivery service is offered through DoorDash, Grubhub, and Uber Eats.
“When the clients come here, we see a smiling face on all their faces. They come here so happy and they try our stuff. We are making friends, lots of friends. Our clients are our friends,” Kubra says. “We say all the time — good food, good friends, and a good time. I hope they find these three things. Our saying is, ‘Bloom Cakes & Bakery — where the flavors and people meet.’”
