Two NJ Transit trains made contact on Friday evening, December 19th, on the Montclair-Boonton line near the Bay Street Station in Montclair. Service on that line is currently suspended while passengers are treated and the scene is investigated. NJ Transit rail tickets are being cross-honored by NJ Transit bus services. Read on for more.
What We Know
A NJ Transit spokesman said: “At approximately 6:47 p.m., two trains on the Montclair-Boonton Line reported making contact in Montclair west of Bay Street.” According to reports, several passengers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Montclair Boonton Line rail service is suspended in both directions due to police activity near Bay Street. NJ TRANSIT rail tickets and passes are being cross honored by NJ TRANSIT bus.

Per Montclair Local, 17 people were evaluated with non-life-threatening injuries, and six of them were taken to the hospital. First responders from West Orange, Nutley, Verona, and Cedar Grove assisted Montclair and NJ Transit in the incident response.
Heavy winds across North Jersey have caused several power outages. It is not known at this time whether the conditions were a contributing factor in the incident. The Montclair Girl will update this piece with more information as it becomes available.
