Meet Furio, Lyric, Rusty, Radish, Zeus, Daryll, and Damita — seven dogs and cats who are looking to be adopted from Wise Animal Rescue or Montclair Township Animal Center and into Essex County or North Jersey homes. While each of these five dogs and two cats may have different personalities, they are all looking for a family to make memories with for many years to come. Read on to learn more about Furio, Lyric, Rusty, Radish, Zeus, Daryll, and Damita and how to adopt these dogs or cats from Wise Animal Rescue or Montclair Township Animal Center.

Furio

Wise Animal Rescue

furio

Name: Furio

The Ivy at Chatham

Breed: Yorkshire Terrier

Age: 3 months

Ideal Home: Furio would do best in a home that has the time to continue his training and socialization to make him the perfect pup WISE knows he can become. He would thrive having another dog in the home to help show him the ropes.

Kids: 13+ due to his small size.

Dogs: Yes — he loves to play with other dogs.

Cats: Unknown

Crate-Trained: Working on it and doing great.

House Trained: Working on it — he is currently working on signaling his foster mom when he has to go to the bathroom.

Other training: Furio is very young and is working on puppy manners and basic obedience. He will need continued training to help him become the best dog he can be.

Personality: Furio’s foster mom says he is, “a smart and spunky little pup.” He is always happy, especially in the morning when he wakes up. Furio loves walking outside and exploring. When it’s time to rest, he will curl up right next to you and snuggle. Furio also loves laying in the window in the sunshine and watching the squirrels play in the tree. He loves his teddy bear, and will snuggle with it and drag it around the house. He also loves his chew toys, especially his piggy tail chew. Furio is your typical happy puppy.

Why she/he came to the rescue: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Furio were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs — healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects — who are destined to be killed for no reason.

Lyric

Wise Animal Rescue

lyric

Name: Lyric

Breed: Standard Poodle

Age: 1 1/2

Weight: Approximately 50 pounds.

Ideal Home: Due to her difficult past, Lyric struggles when she is left home alone. She would do best in a family that is home more often than not and one that is patient and will work with her to build her confidence around new people and new environments. Lyric’s family should have another dog.

Kids: 13+ due to her initial shyness and size.

Dogs: Lyric loves other dogs, especially playing with them. She should go to a home with another dog to help build her confidence and feel safe when left alone.

Cats: Unknown, can cat test for an approved adopter.

Crate-Trained: Working on it.

House Trained: Working on it.

Leash Manners: Working on it.

Personality: Lyric is a playful gal who would benefit from having a doggy sibling. She is a bit anxious and really blossoms around other dogs. She is the mayor of her doggy playgroup. Lyric enjoys playing fetch and enjoys being around people.

Why she/he came to the rescue: Lyric was rescued from a horrible puppy mill situation where she was used for breeding most of her life. When she was determined “unfit” to be used in their ‘breeding program’, they were going to euthanize her. WISE was not going to let that happen and saved this sweet gal.

Rusty

Wise Animal Rescue

rusty

Name: Rusty

Breed: Miniature Pinscher

Age: 1

Weight: Approximately 10 pounds

Ideal Home: Rusty had a rough life before being rescued. He needs a patient family who will shower him with love and continue to socialize him. Rusty can be nervous at times, so a quiet home would be best suited. He must go to a home with another dog.

Dogs: Yes — Rusty enjoys the company of other dogs whether, it is to take a nap together or play.

Cats: Unknown

Kids: 13+

Crate-Trained: Rusty is not being crated in his foster home and is not destructive when left alone.

House Trained: Working on it.

Leash Manners: Rusty has never been walked on a leash and is still learning. He prefers to explore the backyard, but we are hoping his forever home can teach him how to strut his stuff down the block.

Other training: Rusty is nervous, but curious around new people. It takes time to gain his trust, but once you do he will be your best friend. Rusty will need a home that will continue to provide him with socialization and basic training. He loves treats!

Personality: Rusty had a rough start to life, but despite this, he is a loving cuddle bug. Once he comes out of his shell, he could snuggle and play with you all day. Rusty loves toys and carrying them around to show them off. He enjoys being around other dogs and is always looking to instigate playtime.

Why she/he came to the rescue: Rusty was rejected by a pet shop and was to be returned to the mill, where he was destined to be destroyed. WISE wasn’t going to let that happen and took him into their program.

Radish

Wise Animal Rescue

radish

Name: Radish

Breed: Miniature Pinscher

Age: 1

Weight: Approximately 10 pounds

Ideal Home: Radish would do best in a home that will work on building his confidence and giving him the time he needs to come out of his shell. He must go to a home with another dog to help show him the ropes.

Dogs: Yes — Radish loves other dogs and is currently being fostered with multiple. He would thrive on having another dog in his future home. He could play with them all day long.

Cats: Yes

Kids: As Radish would do best in a quiet household, ages 13+ only.

Crate-Trained: Radish is currently not being crated in his foster home and instead is kept in a gated area.

House Trained: Working on it.

Leash Manners: Radish pulls at first but eventually settles down and does well. He is practicing getting used to it more and more each day.

Other training: Radish had little socialization before coming to WISE due to his past life. He needs a patient, understanding family who will work on his training and socialization. He is very treat motivated.

Personality: After spending his whole life in a cage, Radish is looking for a loving home that will teach him that the world is a good place. He is gradually coming out of his shell and learning the fun things about being a dog. He is starting to enjoy pets and cuddle time on the couch. Radish LOVES playing with other dogs and that is when his fun, playful personality shines. He is an active pup and enjoys exploring the house.

Why she/he came to the rescue: Radish was rejected by a pet shop and was to be returned to the mill where he was destined to be destroyed. WISE wasn’t going to let that happen and took him into their program.

Zeus

Montclair Township Animal Center

zeus

Name: Zeus

Breed: Dutch Shepherd

Age: 1

Weight: 70+ pounds

Ideal Home: Zeus would do best in a home with an active, young adult with big dog experience. Adopters should be willing to continue training and keep up with the exercise needed.

Kids: 10+

Dogs: Other dogs are okay with a proper introduction.

Cats: No

Leash Manners: Zeus is moderately strong on leash, but manageable while out.

Training: Knows “sit”.

Personality: Zeus is big, bold, brave, and eager to please and willing to learn. Zeus is food motivated, which makes continued training a breeze. Zeus has an active working mind who would love a “job”. Very loyal and loving, but still a big puppy.

Why she/he came to the rescue: Zeus was brought to the shelter because of unrealistic expectations of the previous owner. It was not a good lifestyle fit for the person or the dog and he wanted what was best for Zeus.

Montclair Township Animal Center

daryll damita

Name: Daryll + Damita

Weight:

Age: 6

Dogs: Absolutely no dogs.

Cats: There is potential for Daryll and Damita to be okay with other cats.

Litter Box-Trained: Yes

Personality: Daryll is affectionate and loves to eat — too much. He is playful and chill at the same time. Damita likes the occasional head scratch and a good window to sit in and birdwatch. You will find the two of them cuddled up at night together or sneaking snacks from anywhere possible. Daryll and Damita are incredibly outgoing and affectionate cats that will love to snuggle up with a forever family.

Medical: Daryll requires a special diet for urinary tract issues so the two need someone who can continue their care.
