Housed in a space built in 1860, upon walking into Trend Coffee + Tea House at 411 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair, you will likely feel like you have been transported to a beatnik Greenwich Village coffee shop circa 1960s. This little coffee shop has heart and soul, music and comedy, and art, a perfect mix for a cozy sip. Keep reading to learn about Trend Coffee + Tea House and what it has to offer.
About Trend Coffee + Tea House
Both born in Skopje, Macedonia, owners Sasha and Dimitar Banjanski moved to the US in 2000. In 2011, they opened Trend Coffee. Although it’s a coffee house, its specialty is chai tea. Everything at Trend Coffee is homemade, including its chai, and pumpkin, vanilla, chocolate, and turmeric flavors are offered for fall. And if chai isn’t your thing, Trend has a vast offering of other hot and cold beverages to choose from, including coffee.

Moving on to food, homemade crepes are prepared before your eyes, both savory and sweet. Trend Coffee + Tea House also offers gluten-free and vegan options. Outside of crepes, quiche, omelettes, a plethora of desserts are on the menu, with vegan options, including their black and white dessert, apple pie, and Trend’s take on a Fig Newton. Its tiramisu (not vegan), typically an Italian dessert, is Sasha’s own recipe, passed down from Sasha’s grandmother in Macedonia.
However, don’t ponder stopping by solely for a coffee or lunch, because Trend Coffee + Tea House offers a vibrant nightlife, too. Every first Tuesday of the month, it hosts a live open mic from 7:00 PM-10:00 PM, where guests can wow the audience with whatever genre of music they play, and every 3rd Wednesday, their monthly jazz jam session kicks off at 7:00 PM and continues through 10:00 PM.
Twice per year, Trend Coffee partners with Jazz House kids to showcase its “Class in Cafe,” where students have the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience. And beginning November 20th, 2025, it will launch its stand-up comedy improv show, which will continue every 3rd Thursday moving forward. The show will begin at 7:30 PM and last for 2 hours.
