A weekend getaway to a luxury spa is closer than you think. Just under 30 minutes from Montclair, you’ll find the most relaxing staycation at SoJo Spa Club in Edgewater. This multilevel Korean bath house-inspired spa makes it easy to slip away for the weekend and slide into a peaceful, calming atmosphere. Keep reading to learn more about the amenities and treatments at SoJo Spa Club.

A Fresh Take on the Spa Experience

SoJo Spa Club is located at 660 River Road in Edgewater and began as nothing more than a vision of a reimagined Korean bath house. The space opened its doors in 2017 as just that — a modern Korean bath house featuring spa treatments from around the world, bringing a comprehensive spa experience to the North Jersey area.

“SoJo Spa Club is a melting pot of cultures and people — whether it comes to the amenities and services we offer, to our staff backgrounds and experiences, and even our guests. This diversity is what is most celebrated and also what makes what we offer so special,” Ashley Jayco, of SoJo Spa Club, told Montclair Girl. “Creating a truly unique and enjoyable experience for all is a welcome challenge that we take head on every day.”

The Spa Experience

What sets SoJo Spa Club apart is the spa menu which makes each visit a fresh experience filled with new treatments. The most popular choice at SoJo Spa is the day pass which grants access to all of the shared amenities including the pools, baths, saunas, bath house, and more. You can also choose to reserve a treatment as part of your spa day. While the day pass isn’t required, it is recommended and the only way to guarantee entrance to the spa.

Massage treatments include aromatherapy massage, couples massage, Shiatsu massage, foot massage, deep tissue massage, maternity massage, and a heated salt stone massage. The Korean Body Scrub treatment is another relaxing solution featuring a basic Korean body scrub with soap and body wash that provides an invigorating exfoliation to stimulate circulation.

Therapy Rooms

SoJo Spa Club houses 10 different saunas and therapy rooms, each one different than the last.

In the Halotherapy Room, guests experience a dry salt therapy which mimics a microclimate similar to a natural salt cave. This therapy dates back to the Grecian era and comes from the Greek work “Halos” for salt. This room works as a natural decongestant, improves overall wellness, and provides relief from irritation and itchiness associated with certain skin conditions.

In order to boost the immune system, alleviate muscle soreness, and revitalize cells, try the Ice Room. This room uses cold temperatures to offer a full range of benefits including improving skin elasticity and thereby slowing down the skin aging process.

The Authentic Ganbanyoku Sauna offers the chance to participate in traditional Japanese “Bedrock Bathing” which dates back centuries. Negative ions in the rock amplify the healing effect and help to reduce stress while promoting a healthier posture.

The Outdoor Dry Sauna is a Finnish-inspired treatment, located outside as its name suggests, and aids in muscle recovery, reduces stress, improves sleep, and protects against cardiovascular disease. Finish sauna sessions are traditionally finished with a jump into cold water.

The White Clay Sauna was first discovered in China and can now be easily found across the globe. White clay is used in medicine, cosmetics, and skin protection creams. This room therapy removes toxins, helps the body absorb oxygen more efficiently, speeds up the oxidation of serotonin, and balances the nervous system.

Since the indoor-outdoor spa & bath house is open all year round with heated pools and baths, the property can genuinely offer something new to each guest, even if that is simply the breathtaking view across the Hudson River.

“I love having the opportunity to provide a one-of-a-kind experience to our guests. I’ve learned about so many other spa cultures and traditions and it’s truly a pleasure to be able to share that experience with others,” Ashley Jayco, of SoJo Spa Club, told Montclair Girl. “There’s nothing better than to know when a guest is leaving a SoJo spa day feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Everyone deserves a great spa day!”
