A Guide to Parking in Montclair, Plus a New Parking Deck

Parking in a city can be a daunting task — especially when there are tons of rules and regulations. For that reason, we researched the resident and visitor parking rules, who to contact if you receive a ticket, where to park in the snow, and more. Plus, there’s a new parking deck that just opened in Montclair, so we’re rounding up where parking decks are available locally. About the New Deck

As of November 10th, the new Midtown Parking Deck is officially open to residents and visitors of Montclair. It is located at Glenridge Avenue and North Willow Street in Montclair. As a part of the soft opening — which is happening now through 8AM on Monday, November 14th — parking will be free for all patrons courtesy of the township Parking Utility. The deck has more than 300 parking spaces, including 10 handicapped spots, and 75 spots will go to employees of local businesses, per Baristanet.

Parking Permits

Permits for all commuter lots are wait-listed.

Permits are monthly, with the exception of the High School. All parking spaces marked with “Permit Parking Only” are for permit-only use 24hrs/7 days a week.

All train station parking permits are valid 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Permit holders are allowed to park overnight in all transit lots without having to purchase an additional overnight permit.

Visitors of Montclair residents who display the single-use parking permit can park in a municipal parking lot marked ”Permit Parking Only” or in front of the resident’s home until 8AM the following morning. The permits can be purchased online and printed at home at a daily rate of $5. See here.

Parking Utility Policies — Monthly Hangtag Holder Policies

All invoices are generated by the Parkmobile app and sent out on the 23rd of each month unless the permit holder is enrolled in Autopay.

Parking in a facility without moving the vehicle, may not exceed 72 hours unless previously arranged with the MPU or parking management company. Currently, this is Impark who can be reached at 973-744-6010.

Metered Parking

All parking meter spaces must be paid for when you park your vehicle in a metered spot. All meters accept three types of payment — coins, credit cards, and the ParkMobile app.

Parking Fines + Tickets

If payment is made by mail for any offense, make a check or money order payable to the Municipal Court of Montclair and send it to the address below. Print the ticket number on the front of the check or money order. Call 973-509-4774 if you have any questions.

When it Snows

Parking on snow-covered streets is prohibited by ordinance 327-25. The no-parking prohibition remains in effect for a period of 12 hours after the snowfall has ceased. This can be extended by the Township Manager if the snow has not been completely cleared from the roads.
