The 11th Annual Montclair Film Festival kicks off today, October 21st, which is great news for everyone — from the casual movie lover to the dedicated film buff. The festival is packed with 10 days of films, conversations, events, and panels that you won’t want to miss. The festival begins Friday, October 21st and runs through Sunday, October 30th with a plethora of events in both Montclair and Newark. Keep reading for everything you need to know about the upcoming film festival happening this month in Essex County.

Montclair Film Festival Events

Over the course of 10 days, The Montclair Film Festival will highlight films from various categories and genres with events taking place at multiple venues including The Clairidge, located at 486 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair; The Wellmont Theater, located at 5 Seymour Street in Montclair; Montclair Kimberley Academy Upper School, located at 6 Lloyd Road in Montclair; and at the NJPAC, located at 1 Center Street in Newark. 

Whether you’re in for all 10 days or just want to check out a film or two, be sure to add The Montclair Film Festival to your calendar for October 2022. Tickets for the general public go on sale on Friday, October 7th at 10AM.

Followed by a Q&A with writer and director Elegance Bratton.

 

Fiction Centerpiece: The Good Nurse | The Wellmont Theater

Saturday, October 22nd at 7:30PM

Followed by a Q&A with Eddie Redmayne and Tobias Lindholm moderated by Stephen Colbert.

 

Documentary Centerpiece: Patrick and The Whale | The Wellmont Theater

Sunday, October 23rd at 12PM

Followed by a Q&A with marine videographer Patrick Dykstra.

An Evening with Daniel Craig + Stephen Colbert | NJPAC in Newark

Friday, October 28th at 8PM

The Montclair Film Festival has honored Daniel Craig with its 2022 Tribute. Stephen Colbert will host Daniel on stage at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in a must-hear conversation with the James Bond actor. Craig is hailed as one of the best actors of his generation on stage, screen, and television. Last year Craig returned for his fifth and final turn as ‘Bond’ in No Time to Die, which was nominated for Outstanding British Film of the Year at the 2022 BAFTA Film Awards and won the Academy Award® for Original Song.

Daniel Craig + Stephen Colbert

Women Talking | Montclair Kimberley Academy Upper School

Sunday, October 30th at 4PM

Sarah Polley directs this powerful adaptation of Canadian author Miriam Toews’ acclaimed 2018 novel. Set in a fictional ultra religious colony, the film tells the story of a secret meeting of the women which will call into question their faith and once-beloved community.

Author and political strategist Huma Abedin and CNN International Anchor Zain Asher discuss their books and the relationships between their stories.

 

What’s the Story with Disinformation? | Montclair Kimberley Academy Upper School

Sunday, October 23rd at 4PM

Moderated by Brian Stelter, panelists include Jonathan Alter who will discuss how to know what is fact and fiction in a political landscape filled with disinformation. Presented in partnership with Craig Newmark Philanthropies

 

StorySLAM: Moviegoer Memories | The Clairidge

This StorySLAM program features stories and surprises as members of the community tell stories about the magic of the cinema.

Thursday, October 27th at 7:30PM

This event, entitled: Power of Food, Words, and a “Seat at the Table,” will talk about the idea of bringing people together through the power of food and words.
