There’s a lot coming to Montclair’s Lackawanna Plaza and Station area as of late (more on that later), but as of September 2024, there’s a new mobile coffee shop in Montclair called Insomnia Coffee. We visited this truck on wheels, and it’s adorable, budget-friendly, and quite delicious Colombian-sourced coffee. Located via Google at 111 Glenridge Avenue in Montclair (though it’s actually located in the parking lot), Insomnia Coffee shop is a new mobile coffee bar on wheels. Here’s a bit of a peek inside our visit to Insomnia Coffee this past week at Lackawanna Station.
It was a bit hard to find Insomnia Coffee, though hidden in plain sight, as the truck is located Northeast part of the Lackawanna parking lot on the Glenridge Avenue side.
The coffee truck opened on August 31st 2024 to the public, posting on its Instagram, “On August 31st, our coffee truck hits the streets, and we’re brewing something special just for you! Whether you’re a coffee aficionado or just need a pick-me-up, join us for a cup that’s worth the wait. See you here for the freshest coffee in town! ☕️.”
The Menu
It’s a small menu, but mighty. We ordered the Pandebono, which is a gluten-free Colombian cheese bread that had just come out of the oven.
There are other Latin-inspired eats freshly-baked on premises, including chicken, beef, and cambray empanadas (cambray = grated cassava, beaten eggs, honey and spices), as well as pastries and desserts such as Arepa de Chocolo and Tres Leches.
Re: the drink menu, it’s officially the first week of fall, so a pumpkin spiced latte was on the docket, but there are a plethora of other types of drinks including various counts of CBD drops as an add-on.
The iced PS latte came with optional whipped cream (obliged, of course), and dairy-free almond milk, though regular milk is available. Truth be told, the name ‘Insomnia’ is quite relevant after tasting the coffee, as PSL tried has been on the mind all week — since the first sip. It was honestly that good.
The most impressive part? In a world of $9 lattes, both a medium (one size) PSL + the Pandebono totaled $7.70 (before tax + tip) — thinking we’re going to add it to our next $50-day challenge.
The hours are currently 7:30AM-4:00PM on weekdays, and 8:00AM-4:00PM on weekends. Since it’s located in the parking lot, it’s easy to park, pickup, and sip your latte all within a few minutes.
For the commuters, there’s also an order-ahead option — you call 973-680-6302 and your order will be “ready in minutes,” according to Insomnia Coffee’s Instagram post.
