Mental Health Association is Hosting a Film Screening + Panel at The Clairidge on 5/16

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, so it is a great time to learn more about ways to promote awareness, learn about vital resources and services, and advocate for the mental health and well-being of all. Mental Health Association, located at 33 South Fullerton Avenue in Montclair, is a non-profit organization that helps advance mental health and well-being for people living in Northern New Jersey. This organization is hosting a film screening and discussion related to mental health and treatments in partnership with Montclair Film and The Clairidge on May 16th from 7PM-9:30PM. Film Screening for Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental Health Association, in partnership with Montclair Film and The Clairidge, is hosting a film screening of Rose. This community event will take place on May 16th from 7PM-9:30PM at The Clairidge, which is located at 486 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair.

The film tells the story of two sisters — Inger and Ellen — and the way a planned bus trip to Paris challenges their relationship.

After the screening, mental health professionals + film experts will lead a discussion about mental health and treatments + recovery. Renee Folzenlogen, MHA Coordinator of Intensive Family Support Services – Essex, will give opening remarks before the panel discussion.

Panel members include Annette Hoffman, MHA Coordinator of Intensive Family Support Services – Sussex, William Michael Barbee, a filmmaker and entrepreneur, and Genaya Palmer, MHA Director of Suicide Prevention Services.

This event is sponsored by The Partners for Health Foundation. General admission tickets cost $15 and are available online.

Available Services

Mental Health Association helps 15,000 people each year by increasing access to mental health and substance abuse prevention services. All of the work is informed, designed, + led by people with lived experiences.

The MHA team works hard to inspire hope and healing by improving mental + physical healthcare for people with substance use disorders and mental illnesses. A variety of behavioral health and substance use disorder services are available to children, adults, seniors, and families.

MHA services include counseling, substance use disorder treatment, suicide prevention initiatives, housing for the homeless, and employment training.

The MHA team is helping to remove the stigma associated with emotional + mental health issues. Compassionate mental health professionals are available to listen, talk, and help. Anyone who needs help for themselves or a loved one can reach out online or by calling an MHA location.

All About Mental Health Association

The Mental Health Association (MHA) provides mental health support through education, treatment, direct services, advocacy, and public policy.

“The mission of the Mental Health Association is to promote mental health, with the integration of physical healthcare, to improve the care and treatment of individuals with mental illness, and to remove the stigma associated with mental health disorders and addictions,” Robert N. Davison, Chief Executive Officer of MHA, told The Montclair Girl.

The community organization has served Northern New Jersey for over 70 years. It is based in Montclair but has regional offices in Parsippany, West Orange, Clifton, East Orange, Morristown, and Newton and services counties across Northern New Jersey like Essex, Morris, Passaic, and Sussex.

“We serve the entire community regardless of their ability to pay. We err on the side of care,” Robert said.
