Since the 2021 legalization of marijuana in New Jersey, and the start of adult-use sales in 2022, cannabis has become a popular tool for health, wellness, and recreation (and we’ve covered it all here). Ascend Cannabis Montclair, a vertically integrated cannabis multi-state operator (MSO), provides high-quality cannabis products and a comfortable shopping experience. Located at 395 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair, Ascend is currently the only dispensary in town, but Montclair locals will soon have to travel to Morris County to shop at Ascend. The dispensary is closing its Montclair shop on June 16th and relocating to Wharton shortly thereafter. The Move to Morris County
Back in December of 2023, NJBIZ reported Ascend’s plans to close its Montclair location and move to Wharton, New Jersey, following the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission’s December 7th approval of its location change application. Wharton is located in Northwest New Jersey in Morris County. The store, according to reports from December, will be located at 325 Route 15 North, a former Capital One Bank location.
In May of 2023, Ascend told the Wharton mayor and council that it wanted to move out of Montclair because the area was “oversaturated” and believed the new location would help hit an underserved market. At the moment, Ascend is currently the only cannabis retailer in Montclair.
Per NorthJersey.com, Ascend sent out an email blast to customers confirming that the Montclair shop is closing on Sunday, June 16th, so locals have just one more week to shop the local cannabis spot. An opening date has not yet been announced for the new Wharton location, but Ascend has two other New Jersey storefronts: Fort Lee and Rochelle Park.

The store sells flavored cartridges like Doublemint, Lime Sorbet, and Mango Tango. Additionally, there are various types of flowers, including Indica and Hybrid strains. You can also purchase accessories like bongs, bowls, joint holders, and different-shaped pipes (grape pictured above!).
