It has officially been 21 years since 2001, which means it’s the 21st anniversary of 9/11. Each year, Essex County hosts events and ceremonies to honor the lives lost from our communities. We’ve compiled a list of 9/11 events in the Essex County and North Jersey area. Read on for a list of 9/11 events happening in Essex County this year.

Cedar Grove High School Flag Placing
When: September 11th at 9AM
Where: Cedar Grove High School, 90 Rugby Road, Cedar Grove
More Information: The Cedar Grove Fire Department will host this year’s 9/11 ceremony, which is a tradition in Cedar Grove. The flag installation will once again be held at Cedar Grove High School. Click here to learn more, per Tapinto.

Montclair State University’s 9/11 Day of Service
When: September 10th at 8AM
Where: 1 Normal Avenue, Montclair
More Information: This annual event, hosted by the Center for Community Engagement and Volunteer Center, honors and remembers the victims and first responders of the September 11th tragedy. 350 people come together to contribute to various volunteering projects. Click here to learn more.
Morris County’s 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
When: September 11th at 6PM
Where: Morris County 9/11 Memorial on West Hanover Avenue in Parsippany-Troy Hills
More Information: This ceremony is a chance for locals to honor and remember the 64 lives lost in 9/11. Seating at the memorial is limited, so the public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs to the outdoor observance. Parking will be available at the Morris County Department of Human Services building at 340 West Hanover Avenue on the Morris Township side of the street. Shuttle buses will be available to transport those in need the short distance to the memorial. Click here to learn more.

Verona’s Remembrance Ceremony
When: September 11th at 8:45AM
Where: Civic Center Monuments, 600 Bloomfield Avenue

West Orange’s 9/11 Memorial Ceremony
When: September 11th at 8AM
Where: Eagle Rock Reservation in West Orange at the 9/11 memorial in the reservation on Eagle Rock Avenue
More Information: This ceremony is open to the public and will be live-streamed on the Essex County website and social media channels. It will include family members who lost a loved one, elected officials + clergy members. There will also be memorial wreaths laid on the monument as well as a flag raising.
